Post Post "Out On A Limb" ( Nov 2014)

Hi ! Where do the days, weeks, months go?
My last post heralded our "Out on a Limb" exhibition, November 2014.  So….just letting you know it was great! Scarey, confronting and exhilarating. It was such a joy to see it all come together and to feel validated. Thank you to everyone who came along and thank you to all the people who invested in our work. My gratitude goes to my beautiful daughter. Julie Holmes, and my awesome brother, Mark Lenny, for going out on a limb with me.

The end.

Out on a limb...

Hi
I thought I should make an effort to post to keep you all in the loop.
The year is disappearing at an alarming rate and I am feeling a little frantic amidst the turmoil of living.
However, I am working my way towards an exhibition in November. It is opening on the 21st. This exhibition is the brain child of my beloved daughter, Julie . Julie and  I  and my brother, Mark, are exhibiting at the Mechanics Institute.  It is a council run exhibition space with historical significance.
Here are a few glimpses of what I am working on.

Intaglio
I have been making marks on etching plates using a variety of methods. Some of these are drypoint,  carborundum , soft ground, hard ground and white ground. Working with white ground has become a favourite process. It is a joy to paint onto the plate and then watch the alchemy that happens when it is plunged into the copper sulphate bath. I became acquainted with this process through Tony Ameneiro, a master printmaker and educator.

Painting

The spring of canvas when touched with a brush loaded with paint, the agony and the ectsacy… this is painting. The following images are fragments of some of the works that will be resolved before the 20th of November!

 Basketry
I have a need to return to the meditative process of weaving forms from found materials. These are mostly native vines found on our hill and sometimes recycled materials.

So, it is all happening! I will keep you posted……..

ADVENTURE & CREATIVITY IN 2013

29th of December, 2013….I thought I had better get my act together and post on my blog!

So... a lot has been going on in 2013 and it may take some time to process all the amazing experiences I have had.

"Happy Christmas and Merry New Year" everyone!

December…. Christmas Makers Markets..Thankyou "Little Finch"!

Julie had a stall too!

November…."REVIVE" Art Prize.

I was challenged by the guidelines of this exhibition to use materials that are usually destined for landfill. After considerable experimentation with the dreadful plastic strapping that usually has difficulty staying in garbage bins, because it has a mind of it`s own, I ended up with "Red Belly Black".  The texture of recycled plastic strapping, spray painted pattern and guinea fowl feathers unnervingly references the reptile world: the serpent and its prey.
I feel very honoured to have won the prize.

November…  The annual EFTAG exhibition at the Mechanics institute, Moruya. " HIDDEN"

Fillament” , “ Satellite of Love” and “ Hello” are works using materials associated with technology and the man made world, telstra wire and plastic tubing.  Encased in plastic are the feathers of our budgerigar, “ Ziggy Stardust”, and also the materials that birds use to build their nests. Our discovery of the world and its` creatures is viewed through screens and digital technology, along with the way we communicate with each other We are "hidden" behind technology and the world can very easily be " hidden" from our sense of touch and smell.

                                                                         "Hello"

  "Satelite of Love"

                                                                       "Fillament"

“ Scrim”, “Secrets of the Tarlatan” and “Paperbark” are works that deal with our hidden emotional states. I have worked with some materials that have been recycled from my printing practice along with palm inflorescence, linen cord, and silk threads.

                                                                          "Scrim"

"Rhyme and Reason " exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre, ACT.

                                                                      " Refuge"

This was a wonderful creative time of sharing and learning. I am inspired by so many remarkable people who have such a passion for their making of beautiful forms using so many different techniques and materials. ACT basketry are a small and extraordinary group who organised this national event at Green Acres Conference Centre.
It was a privilege to meet some of the bright stars of Australian basketry and also American artist John Garrett, who were all so very generous in sharing their knowledge in the workshops.
The " Rhyme and Reason" exhibition was presented in conjunction with the gathering. It was a privilege to be part of this exhibition.
